Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation promoted national Adopt-A-Cat Month in June by holding a special drawing for cat-related prizes.

“The month was a success,” said Randi Pollack, cat committee chair. “Sixty-five cats were adopted from either the Haywood County Animal Shelter, PetSmart or Sarge’s Adoption Center. We know the adopters didn’t adopt these new family members just to take part in the drawing, but it is an added bonus.”

Rita Robertson, who adopted a bob-tailed calico named Ruby, was the grand prizewinner. Ruby loves her new plush cushion, scratching post, and all the toys and goodies included. Robertson will appreciate

the flea preventative, free vet office visit and three nights boarding for Ruby, if she needs to go out of town.

Bryanda Mull won second prize, Jo Ann Holland won the third prize and Christopher Rich won a special fourth place gift bag.

“We would like to thank all our sponsors who made this event possible,” Pollack said. “We couldn’t have come up with such wonderful prizes for cats if not for the Animal Hospital of Waynesville, Balsam Animal Hospital, Canton Animal Hospital, Country Lane Animal Hospital, Creature Comforts, Junaluska Animal Hospital, Maple Tree Veterinary Hospital and Rahama Kennel & Cattery. “

Even though this adoption event met with success, it does not mean there aren’t many cats/kittens still needing homes.

“Unfortunately, the shelter, PetSmart and Sarge’s Adoption Center are  still overflowing with wonderful cats and kittens looking for their forever home,” Pollack said.

Sarge’s mission is to save Haywood County animals from euthanasia. Dogs and cats are available for adoption from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays and larger adoption events are held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays at Sarge’s Adoption Center, 256 Industrial Park Dr., Waynesville, or the public may adopt Sarge’s cats from PetSmart, in Waynesville.
