Sarge's cat adoptions have best July ever
Temperatures haven't been the only thing on the rise this summer. Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation's dog and cat adoptions have been increasing as well with July marking a record high number of cat adoptions since the organization began in 2005.
Overall, there were 74 adoptions in July, and 40 of those adoptions were cats.
"A big part of it is our affiliation with PetSmart. That has increased our exposure to the public," said Linda Sexton, cat adoption coordinator for Sarge's.
Dogs did well in July, too, with 34 dogs finding new homes, which matches last year's best July for dogs.
So far this year, Sarge's has helped 389 cats and dogs find homes, a number that tops the 332 adoptions from last year during the same time period. That number represents an overall increase of 17 percent.
Sexton said the Internet is playing a big roll in increasing adoptions because more people can see the dogs and cats available for adoption. There have even been some adoptions with people who live out of state.
"They see those pictures," Sexton said of the Sarge's website. "Internet is definitely the way to go."
The increase is good news not only for the cats and dogs that got adopted in July, but also for those that are waiting for a second chance at life.
"The more that are adopted and the quicker they're adopted, the more we can save," Sexton said.
She added that for those who aren't ready to adopt a cat or kitten, foster homes are always needed and help to save even more pets.
