'Saving Haywood One House at a Time' fundraiser is Sept. 7
A “Saving Haywood One House at a Time” emergency fundraiser will take place from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, at Alley Kats Tavern, located at 154 Hemlock St., Waynesville. This benefit concert will help three families from the Haywood County that are in immediate danger of losing their homes. These families include an elderly woman with large medical expenses, a single mother of two and a family with disabilities.
Wanda Brooks, owner of Alley Kats Tavern, along with many others are able to relate to the fear of losing one's home and not knowing where to turn.
Therefore, 100 percent of the profit from this event will be donated to the three families. The funds will be used to either pay their mortgages current, or pay enough to stop the foreclosure proceedings, allowing time to apply for a loan modification. Checks will be made out directly to the loan holders.
At this family-friendly event there will be hamburgers and hotdogs, and a variety of local singers and songwriters will be showcased.
Brooks is asking for donations for raffles and old cars that can be sold for scrap.
