SCDC receives grant to support Nurse Family Partnership
Southwestern Child Development Commission’s Nurse Family Partnership program has received a $50,000 grant from the Evergreen Foundation to support the program’s work with first-time mothers.
The program serves first-time mothers and their infants until the child is 2-years-old. Clients are provided with education and support to help them become successful parents and self-sufficient members of society.
There are four nurses employed by the program who conduct home visits for 93 clients throughout Haywood, Swain, Macon and Jackson counties. These nurses often travel 100 miles in a day to meet with their clients.
Services are currently available for new mothers who enroll in the program before their 28th week of pregnancy. Contact Vicki Lewis, nursing supervisor, at 477-4178 for referrals.
In addition to the Evergreen Foundation support, this program is able to maintain service delivery in the four counties in Region A with additional support from the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust, the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina and other funding streams.
