School bus flips into creek

A school bus driver is uninjured after flipping the bus over into a creek on Sugar Cove Road around 6 a.m. Tuesday.

The driver, 44-year-old Carolyn Ferguson, was on her way to pick up Tuscola High School/Waynesville Middle School students when the wreck occurred.

There were no students on the bus at the time of the wreck.

Trooper Joseph Henderson with the NC Highway Patrol said Ferguson told him she took her eyes off the road. The bus veered to the left and the front tires slid on the wet bank of the creek.

The bus flipped onto its side in the creek and a nearby resident came down to help Ferguson climb out of the doors, which were facing up. She escaped from the wreck without any injuries.
