The Lake Junaluska Senior Resource Team hosted a Christmas luncheon for the residents at Aviemore.  Tables were decorated with seasonal foliage and piled high with turkey, ham and all the trimmings.  The tree was decorated and a gift for each resident was placed beneath it.

The Senior Resource Team consists of individuals who have completed Haywood Community Connections’ Senior Leadership Program.  The primary goal of the various teams is to help seniors, disabled individuals, and caregivers locate needed programs and services.  The teams do this and so much more.

The Junaluska Team decided to “adopt” the residents of Aviemore.  They set up a food pantry at the housing complex.  Most of the residents at Aviemore are seniors on a fixed income.  If a resident needs groceries at the end of the month before his/her social security check arrives, the pantry can be accessed for food to help them through the end of the month.

One resident just moved into an apartment at Avimore in October, having moved from Florida.

“This Christmas luncheon will be the highlight of my Christmas,” she said. “I moved here and do not know very many people. It’s incredible that these folks would come and prepare this luncheon for us.  I can hardly believe it.”

Another resident was heard to say, “This is the first Christmas present I have received in three years.”

It was a great day for everyone — residents and volunteers alike.  Everyone’s Christmas holiday was made a little brighter.  It’s amazing what a little love can do.
