A "Longest Night" service will be held at Canton Presbyterian Church in the downstairs fellowship hall on Friday, December 21, at 5:00 p.m. During this month we experience the shortest day and the longest night of the year. But the "Longest Night" also refers to the feeling that some experience during this season. It is the "long dark night of the soul," "the winter of our discontent," a time in which memories and present pain can overwhelm us.
For some, Christmas Day is the most difficult. For others, it may be Christmas Eve, or New Year's Eve, or the beginning of another lonely New Year.
In this service, we will have communion, scripture, prayers, and music appropriate to the season, recognizing that this is not necessarily a joyful time in everyone's lives. Come without pretense, offer your heart to the Christ child, and know that you are not alone.
Canton Presbyterian Church is located at 190 Main Street, on the block between Champion Drive and Newfound Street. The church is handicapped accessible.
