It's warming up — time to get out and volunteer. Call the Jackson Haywood Volunteer Center at 356-2833 to get connected in the community.

Here are some opportunities:

— Haywood County Recreation and Parks: Work in parks, help with programs

— Haywood Waterways Association: Help clean up streams

— Mountain Mediation: Spring training is May 6-8

— Haywood Chamber of Commerce:  Man phones, greet customers

— Pathways Thrift Store: Process items, clerks

— KARE: Light reception work in the mornings, assist with Personal Safety Program

— Healthy Haywood: Partner to keep the county healthy

— The ARC of Haywood County: Facility maintenance, office work

— Autumn Care: Sit with a friend, teach a craft to the seniors

— Haywood Spay/Neuter: Office, spay/neuter on-site transport help (loading, unloading assisting clients, prepping crates), trap-neuter-return

— American Youth Soccer Organization: Referees, line painters, concession stand

— Haywood County Arts Council: Gallery 86, shifts from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., 1 to 5 p.m.

— Sarges Animal Rescue: Transport drivers, foster homes for cats and dogs, office help

— Mountain Projects: Receptionist, Phone Assurance program

— Meals on Wheels: Need to drivers to fill routes, need secretary for Friends

— Haywood County Public Library: NEW — Giving Garden, assortment of jobs throughout the library

— Circles of Hope:  Mentor, serve on committee, new program

— Habitat For Humanity: Help build houses, help at the Habitat Store

— HRMC Hospice: Help needed with a new program, Vet to Vet program

— The Community Kitchen: Cooks, servers, assistance with fundraiser

— REACH: Hotline Volunteers, thrift store workers

— Good Samaritan Clinic: Front desk, office

— The Open Door: Assistance in the dining room/kitchen, thrift shop, food pantry

— Haywood Chamber of Commerce: Office work

— STAR Ranch: Help care for abused horses and assist with homeless cats

— Haywood Regional Medical Center Auxiliary: Front desk, patient escorts

— Haywood Christian Ministries: Receive donations of clothing and goods, 4-hour shifts

— The Great Laurels of Junaluska: Assist with odd and ends projects for residents

— Smoky Mountain Health Care and Rehab Center: Assist with activities

— Big Brothers/Big Sisters: In need of Big Brothers and Sisters in the community and school programs

— Friends of the Smokies: Help with outreach programs

— Bethel Rural Community Organization: Man food bank pantry for needy, second Wednesday monthly

— Barium Springs: Mentors for youth

— Pigeon Community Development Center: Transportation, assist children with reading and math

— Guardian Ad Litem: Advocates in the court system for children who are abused or neglected.

— Haywood County TDA Visitor Centers: Man centers, greet people

— Special Olympics: Coaches and mentors

— Foster Grandparents: Help a pre-school or elementary age child, stipend available for those who meet guidelines

— The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP): Those over 55 years of age can receive a limited amount of mileage coverage and supplementary insurance while volunteering.
