Shaving it off for Relay
Jonathan Valley Elementary School students and teachers showed their support for Relay for Life on Monday by shaving their heads.
About 19 male students volunteered to have their heads shaved in honor/memory of those who have suffered from cancer.
Michelle Knapik, a fourth-grade teacher at Jonathan Valley, said several of the teachers told the students that they too would shave their heads if the student body raised $1,500 for Relay in a week. As of Monday, the school had raised more than $1,800.
"We're also doing the penny slam the rest of the week and that usually brings in more money," she said.
Staying true to their word, Carla Billups, Laura Ernest, Kelly Hall, Tammie Beck, Deborah Massie and Michael Belue shaved their heads.
Beck brought her son along, Keith Beck, to shave her head. ...
