Shining Rock Riverfest to raise money for Camp Hope
From soft Indie music to Southern Appalachian folk songs, the lineup of Shining Rock Riverfest at Camp Hope is sure to please every musical palette.
Featuring nine bands for $7, it's the first fundraiser for the Friends of Camp Hope, an organization dedicated to raising awareness about and sprucing up the facilities at Camp Hope.
The sprawling property tucked away in the Cruso area of Canton is a beloved piece of the town's rich history. For many who grew up in Haywood County, Camp Hope was a part of their childhood — Boy Scout camps, picnics, carnival rides, football camps and so much more took place there over the years.
The rustic, peaceful property feels like it's far away from civilization, with lush green trees surrounding it and the river running nearby.
If there's one thing people love in Haywood County, it's good music and good food, which is the basis of this festival.
Tracy O'Neil, a founding member of the Friends of Camp Hope, knew early on that a music festival would be the organization's first fundraiser.
"Everybody loves music, especially mountain music," he said. "All of these groups draw their influence from Appalachian music."
Celtic, Reggae, blues, bluegrass — there will be a little bit of everything featured at the first Riverfest.
Though music festivals aren't a rarity in this area, O'Neil believes the atmosphere of Camp Hope will make the event unique.
Each of the performers in the show agreed to play because they share the same conviction to see Camp Hope remain a public entity for the county.
In addition to the music, there will be kid's activities, silent auction items, 50/50 tickets, drinks, desserts and barbecue.
Money raised at the festival will go toward upkeep at Camp Hope.
Friends of Camp Hope are still looking for sponsors for this event. For those who wish to be a sponsor, contact O'Neil at 828-400-7499 or email at email@example.com.

With influences from the late Doc Watson to Dylan and The Band, there truly is something for everyone to enjoy!
