So Dearly Loved
CANTON — Shirley Dianne Johnson Phillips, 63, of Miller Street, passed away into the arms of the angels, Sunday, March 17, 2013.
Mrs. Phillips was born Sept. 5, 1949, in Haywood County. She resided in Canton most of her life and was a 1967 graduate of Pisgah High School. She was a devoted homemaker and loved her family deeply. Mrs. Phillips was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church in Candler, before moving her letter to High Street Baptist Church in Canton. Shirley was dedicated to her Lord and to her church. She was an active member of the WMU and also helped in organizing and the preparation of church meals for families during their time of bereavement. She loved beautiful flowers and she could often be found planting and working in the church flower garden. Shirley was a founding member of the Miniature Aircraft Society of Haywood County and also served as the club treasurer. To know Shirley was to love her. Her beautiful smile will always be remembered by those blessed to know her. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and she was truly a blessing to so many throughout her life. Shirley Johnson Phillips was a lady of kindness and a lady with a loving, caring, and giving heart.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lawton M. Johnson, and a brother, Carroll Johnson.
Surviving are her loving husband of 44 years, Douglas Neal Phillips; her daughter, Angela Phillips West, of Canton; her grandchildren, Hanna Almendinger and Kristi West, of Canton; and also her mother, Flora Pitts Johnson Burress, of Canton.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at High Street Baptist Church. The Revs. Chris Willett and Kristy Hardin Burnette will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in Ridgeway Baptist Church Cemetery.
