Shuman selected for States Games and North Carolina's ODP

Waynesville teen earns a spot on West Region girls soccer team

Waynesville teenager Natalie Shuman has been selected to participate on two North Carolina soccer teams in June and July.
After tryouts in May, Shuman was first selected as a member of the West Region team for the Powerade State Games High School Showcase Tournament, June 15-17, at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem. She will join 18 top rising high school juniors and seniors from all the western counties.
Before the tournament, the team will travel to Charlotte to scrimmage the Charlotte Lady Eagles soccer team.
In addition, after a five month training and elimination process, she was also selected as a member of the North Carolina ‘96 Women’s Olympic Development Team, (ODP) traveling to the University of Montevallo in Alabama for Region III Camp on  July 11-16.
This is an honor reserved for only 36 of the best players from each age group in each state in the southern region.
Shuman is a rising junior home school student who plays club soccer for the Highland Football Club 95 Ladies Red team as an outside defender and school soccer for the WCAA Asheville Trailblazers as a center defender.
