Sick Mountaineers still beat East Henderson by 21 points

Tricoli and Swanger finish with game-highs 19 points each

East Henderson or a nasty flu bug couldn’t stop the Tuscola varsity girls basketball team as the Mountaineers dismantled the Eagles, 50-29, in a WNCAC game Friday night.
Tuscola improved to 11-5 overall and 5-1 in the WNCAC, while East Henderson fell to 4-8 and 1-5 in the WNCAC. The Mountaineers will play at Franklin on Tuesday.
Seniors Taylor Gibson, Shelby Tricoli and Jasmine Duncan were effected by the flu, but played against the Eagles.
Gibson logged a few minutes and scored only one point, Duncan didn’t score. But Tricoli and senior forward Alex Swanger finished tied for game-high honors with 19 points each.
Also for Tuscola, Peyton Fisher had six points, Tristan Woodall chipped in five points, while Samantha Beasley and Sam Young had two points each.
East Henderson’s Stephanie Smith had a team-high 16 points.
The Mountaineers took East Henderson out of the game early with a 10-1 lead going into the second quarter and stretched out the advantage by halftime to 15 points (22-7).
Tuscola outscored East Henderson 19-12 to hold a 41-19 lead at the end of the third quarter.
