Sign up to help Ty

While no firm date as yet been set for the Ty Pennington, Guaranteed Rate work day at the Haywood Pathways Center, there is a handy way in place for volunteers to sign up to help.

The website is now live and is the portal where volunteers can choose an area where they are best able to serve, donate to the emergency shelter, halfway house and soup kitchen or provide items that will be needed for an anticipated Nov. 1 opening.

Volunteers can select from areas such as construction, landscaping, food service, flooring or painting, while the “Wish List” button allows individuals to view a list of supplies, furniture or improvement products and then commit to provide them.

The Haywood Pathways Center learned on Aug. 1 they had won a national contest sponsored by Guaranteed Rate that would provide $50,000 toward the project, along with a day of work from company spokesperson Ty Pennington and his team.

Although the exact day of the visit is unknown, it will certainly be before the end of October, said Nick Honerkamp, senior pastor at New Covenant Church and founder/board chairman of the Haywood Christian Emergency Shelter.

“We have a lot of work to do before the work can begin,” Honerkamp said in reference to pre-planning details that must be handled, “and there is a lot of work to do to get the facility ready for occupancy. We’ve seen an outpouring of support for this project already, and people are eager to help even more. We are making every effort to ensure there are ways for everyone to get involved, whether they have just a few minutes, several hours or other resources to offer.”

Haywood Helps is the umbrella organization under which donations to Pathways Center can be made possible. The organization will be sponsoring events throughout the year and establishing social enterprises to generate funds for the continued operation of the center.

The Haywood Pathways Center website includes a schedule allowing for corporate sponsorships.

For a $3,000 donation, an entity or individual can become a bronze partner, which offers two free tickets to a Haywood Helps event, two Haywood Pathways T-shirts and recognition on a sponsor board, banner and the website for a year.

A $5,000 Silver Partner provides four free tickets to two events, four T-shirts and recognition on a Silver sponsor board, projects and electronic website banner.

The $10,000 Gold Partner includes similar sponsor recognition along with six free tickets to three Haywood Helps events, and a $20,000 Platinum-Plus partner included eight free tickets to each Haywood Helps event, 20 T-shirts and recognition at all events, the project site and the website. Gold sponsors will be able to have a photo with the Guaranteed Rate sponsors and Pennington and lunch with board members.

A sponsor giving $200,000 or more to the project will have a building named in their honor.

The next scheduled Haywood Helps event is a fundraising gala to be held on Aug. 28 at Laurel Ridge Country Club. Tickets are $100 each and are still available. They can be purchased at The Mountaineer, 220 N. Main St. in Waynesville.
