Justin Lane, lead forecaster for The National Weather Service in Greenville/Spartanburg will present the SKYWARN Weather Spotter Class from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 13, at Haywood Community College, 185 Freedlander Drive, Clyde.

This class is hosted the National Weather Service, Haywood Community College and Haywood County Emergency Services.

SKYWARN is a volunteer program with nearly 290,000 trained severe weather spotters. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe by providing timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the National Weather Service.

According to the National Weather Service, the main responsibility of a SKYWARN spotter is to identify and describe severe local storms.

In addition to public safety employees (fire, EMS, law enforcement) individuals affiliated with schools, hospitals, churches and nursing homes or have a responsibility for protecting others are encouraged to attend.

More information on SKYWARN is available at http://skywarn.org/about/

These sessions are free and open to the public.
