Smokies park superintendent announces retirement
Dale Ditmanson, Great Smoky Mountains National Park superintendent, announced his decision to retire on Jan. 3, 2014 from 36 years with the National Park Service.
He has served in the Smokies as superintendent since May of 2004 and led the park through a variety of challenging projects along with celebrations including the Park’s 75th Anniversary in 2009.
“Working in the Smokies has been an honor, and I look forward to continuing that work over the next four months,” said Ditmanson. “Our new Deputy Superintendent, Patty Wissinger, came on board this week, and I have every confidence that our staff will continue to provide excellence in service as they care for this special place.”
A full press release regarding his departure will be provided later this week.
