Supporting local community needs is the inspiration behind the third annual Smokin' BBQ and Bluegrass Festival at the Cold Mountain Corn Maize in Canton, opening at 10 a.m. this Saturday, Sept. 21.

This day will consist of a visit through the maize, local music, dancing and, as the event is sanctioned by the Southern BBQ Network, barbecue sales and a competition.

Music will begin at noon, with the following bands and clogging teams present at the event: the Ross Brothers and Terry Woody; J Creek Cloggers; Matt Wright and Friends from the ETSU bluegrass program; Hill Country Band; and Wiregrass from Forest City.

Admission to the festival is $10, and all net proceeds will be donated to the Good Samaritan Clinic of Haywood County,a 501(c)3 nonprofit medical clinic that provides adults in Haywood County with primary care for the uninsured, primary care for new Medicaid enrollees and mental health services. The Good Samaritan Clinic relies heavily on community support, with 68 percent of operating funds coming from churches and individuals in the community.
