Smoky Mountain Cinema closes

Aug 30, 2013

Haywood County's only movie theater closed its doors Friday, citing the requirement to change film to digital as one of the main reasons.

"We have put forth every effort to keep the theater operating for the community. Unfortunately we were just another casualty of our times due to the crossroads of film changing to digital," according to the Smoky Mountain Cinema Facebook page.

Angie Ballance, part owner of the theater with her husband, said the decision wasn't an easy one, and thanked all the patrons over the years for their support.
