Smoky Mountain Sk8way —
While most recreational services are packing it up for the summer, Smoky Mountain Sk8way is gearing up for the busy season.
The roller skating rink which opened in Waynesville almost a year ago caters to area families and has been a much needed activity
for the mountains. Our local schools, families, churches and other organizations are enjoying the new facilities as hundreds are learning
how to skate. Some of them for the second time!
Roller skating is an activity which appeals to both young and old because it’s fun, healthy and relatively easy to do. In recent years,
sports such as Roller Derby, Inline Hockey and Jam Skating have helped to make skating a popular sport again. It not all about the skating, though.
The rink has always been a great place to meet friends, socialize, have a Birthday Party and a safe place to drop your kids off for a couple of hours.
Smoky Mountain Sk8way will be working with Haywood County Schools again this year, as well as, schools as far away as Cherokee who bring their
classes out for field trips and rewards trips. The rink will host a PTO night every Thursday night from 6:00 pm-10:00 pm beginning in September
where they will donate a portion of each admission back to the respective school’s PTO. Please check their website at
to find out what night your school skates on.
The rink  sets its operating hours to correspond with the Haywood County School’s calendar so they can be open on school holidays, teacher work
days and snow days. The first school closing is Labor Day. Monday, September 5th, Smoky Mountain Sk8way will be open from 11:00 am- 4:00 pm
with a $5.00 admission fee which includes skates. The same day is Family Night which happens every Monday night where a family of four can skate for only
$10.00 with skates included.  $3.00 for each additional skater.
Smoky Mountain Sk8way is located in the same building as the old skating rink at 19025 Great Smoky Mountain Expressway also known as the HWY 23/74 Bypass.
Please call 828-246-9124 for more details. Their skating session times can be found on their website at or on Facebook at .
