Smoky Mountain Sk8way to offer summer camp

By Smoky Mountain Sk8way | May 23, 2014

With summer around the corner, many parents find themselves struggling to find fun, educational activities to schedule for their children. Working parents scramble to find babysitters who will provide a safe environment while still delivering summer fun.  Smoky Mountain Sk8way has partnered with area teachers and specialists to offer an affordable day camp experience for kids who've finished kindergarten through sixth grade.

"We noticed a need for safe, structured summer fun for our children," said Jolynn Bryant, owner of Smoky Mountain Sk8way. "We have reached out to teachers and specialists in the community to offer the best experience possible right here in Haywood County."

Activities will be both onsite and offsite. Sandra Christopher, cafeteria manager at Hazelwood Elementary, will be driving a school bus purchased from Graham County Schools to transport all children. Onsite activities include rollerskating and skate lessons, arts and crafts, a climbing wall, dodgeball, board games, team building activities, video games and bounce house and slide at the skate way.

Offsite activities will include picnics at the park, trips to the movies, swimming at the recreation center, trips to farms, a tour of the forestation, and putt putt, plus many others. Specialist Kelly Timco will provide hula hooping instruction and Logan Labbe-Jarrell and Nate Norgrod from Waynesville Wellness Center will offer creative dance classes and martial arts instruction.

Not only are the activities being offered at an incredible price but there is flexible scheduling to work with parents' schedules and summer vacations. Full time enrollment (four to five days a week) is $95, and part time is $75 (one to three days a week). Parents can choose the days and weeks they want their child to attend. There is a $60 enrollment fee to reserve a space for summer. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. June 7 and and 7 p.m. June 11.

Camp starts June 16 and runs through Aug. 15 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Kids will be asked to bring a lunch but snacks will be provided by the summer camp staff.
