Social media depicts food like porn

According to the social media website, Pinterest, images of food are the fastest growing category for people seeking pictures of topics that interest them. According to a website spokesperson, food images generate 50 percent more “pins” than fashion and style photos.
Many of these photos depict food in a desirable setting, thus leaving the viewer to crave the item they are looking at.
Some experts state that this type of advertising is akin to those who view pornography on a regular basis.
Dr. Susan Albers, a psychologist and author of the book “Eating Mindfully,” refers to this practice as food porn because, “food porn allows us to lust after taboo things, and now it’s on our terms. We can search for exactly what turns us on, enlarge the images, and linger for as long as we want.”
