St. Margaret's to hold open house June 1
St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church in Maggie Valley will hold an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 1. The church is located at 37 Murphy Drive, on the hill above Living Waters Catholic Reflection Center on Soco Road (US 19) just before Ghost Town in Maggie Valley.
Visitors and parishioners may tour the area at their own pace, explore all areas of the church and ask questions as desired. Guides and program coordinators in various areas of the church will explain the use and meaning of the elements of the Catholic faith tradition. All are welcome for a tour of the church along with informal presentations regarding programs offered at St. Margaret’s.
“Opening God's House”' was a similar program held at St. Margaret's in 1997 and was the inspiration for the upcoming open house. As was the intention then, this open house will present all the church's activities — worship, education, programs, service and celebrations.
Ministries at St. Margaret’s include the contemplative prayer group, charismatic prayer group, Marriage Encounter, Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA, intended for non-Catholics), Holy Spirit prayer group, prayer chain, Faith Formation (CCD, Catholic Youth Education), Life in the Spirit seminar, Women’s Guild, Vatican II seminar, Pastoral Council, Bible study, community garden, Pro Life Committee, prison ministry, Open Door Outreach, Liturgy (altar servers, Eucharistic ministry, lectors) and Tribunal Advocates (assisting Catholics seeking annulments). St. Margaret’s also sponsors a chapter of the Knights of Columbus.
It is the hope that the open house will provide an opportunity for Christians of all traditions to meet and learn from one another as they celebrate their shared faith in Jesus Christ.
