STAR donkey saga continues — It's a boy

Photo by: Donated IT'S A BOY! — STAR Ranch recently welcomed a new addition, the baby of one of the recently rescued donkeys. A contest to name the baby has been started.

STAR Ranch celebrated Mother’s Day in fine fashion this year.  One of the five recently rescued donkeys gave birth Saturday, May 10, the day before Mother’s Day. The very proud father, Jackson, was gelded a few weeks ago. At age 6, surgery was very hard for him. STAR Ranch extends its gratitude for the prayers, well wishes and good thoughts for Jackson.

Concerned neighbors had called STAR Ranch several weeks ago about five donkeys roaming at large in the Fines Creek area. The donkeys had not had their hooves trimmed in almost four years, according to the farrier who worked on them.

“Their hooves are trimmed, they are up to date on rabies and all vaccines and they are eating well,” said Karen Owens, president of STAR Ranch.  “We were concerned about the mother’s nutrition and her ability to support a pregnancy. But mother and baby are doing fine so far.”

The baby needs a name, she added.

Visit www.star-ranch-rescue.com to suggest a name. To make a tax-deductible donation to the donkeys, send to 970 Rabbit Skin Road, Waynesville, NC 28785. For more information, call 400-4940.

I am so happy to hear of a healthy baby donkey's birth.  Donkeys are tough little equines and a joy to own.  I hope that these find adopters soon to share their donkey love with.
