The “Stars & Stripes Celebration” on Main Street in Downtown Waynesville continues after it began 22 years ago.  Every July 4th holiday consists of the Waynesville Kiwanis Club volunteers lining the Main Street area with oversized American flags.  Shops, galleries and restaurants are open all day.  Sidewalk areas are filled with musicians, Uncle Sam, balloon artist, face painting & more along Main Street.  First Baptist Church will have a traditional mountain music concert in their parking lot from 11:45 am - 1:45 pm.  The Haywood Community Band will perform a patriotic concert on the Courthouse lawn at 2:00 pm.

The free children’s patriotic parade returns.  Join us in front of the courthouse at 10:00 am to register.  Participants can decorate their bicycles, tricycles, scooters, strollers and wagons.  Patriotic dress and or decorations are required.  All ages welcome to participate.  Starting at 11:00 am, the parade, led by Waynesville’s Mayor Gavin Brown and Uncle Sam, leaves from the courthouse and proceeds up Main Street to First Baptist Church where parade participants under the age of 18 receive free ice cream! Parade participants also receive a free hot dog at the new Main Street Cook Out in the United Community Bank parking lot.  No motorized vehicles or animals (with the exception of service animals) will be permitted in the parade. Release forms are required and can be completed during registration or you can download and print it at http://www.downtownwaynesville.com/downloads/2013SS-Kids-release.pdf

New for 2013 is the Main Street Cook Out (11:00 - 3:30 pm) located in the United Community Bank parking lot. Delicious hot dogs, burgers and craft beer from Waynesville's three local breweries.  Sponsored by the American Legion, Knights of Columbus and the Main Team from Main Street Realty, all proceeds will benefit local charities.

Note:  Under NC law, bicyclists under the age of 16 years are required to wear helmets on public streets. Sorry, NO animals allowed at downtown events.   For more information contact the Downtown Waynesville Association, 828-456-3517,  downtownwaynesville@charter.net.
