Deadline for all entries is Monday March 25, 2013. Categories for this year’s judging are Best in Show, Dog, Cat, Puppy, Kitten, Photographers under the age of 12, Sarge Rescue, Other (animal other than a dog or cat), and Super Shooters (people who have previously won first place).
“This is one of Sarge’s favorite events,” said Brenn Rohman, co-chairperson of the contest. “We hope, however, that we’ll have more entrants in the “Under 12” category this year. The contest is a great opportunity for young people to show off their photography skills by taking picture of their pets.”
The winning photos will be featured in the glass cases on the first floor of the Haywood County Library. “For the past several years Bee and Joe Volpe have contacted the Library, organized the photos and spent a lot of time arranging them in the cases,” said Cynthia Morris, co-chairperson. “The displays also include information regarding Sarge’s volunteers and their accomplishments.”
Photos must be the original work of an amateur photographer. Size should range from 4x6 to 8x10 inches. Do not frame or mat the photos. Photos, entry forms and a $10 fee should be mailed to Sarge’s Adoption headquarters at P.O Box 854; Waynesville, NC, 28786 or delivered to the Adoption Center. For directions, call 828-456-9451. More than one photo can be submitted but a completed entry form and $10 fee must accompany each photo.
Electronic submissions will not be accepted. Photos cannot be returned.
Beth Brown of Beth Brown Photography will be joining Ellen Schattie to judge the entries. “When judging the photos for Sarge’s Pet Photo Contest, we look for how creative the photographer was in capturing the unique and often fun or crazy qualities of the pet. We also look for originality in composition of the image and quality in the final print.” said Brown.
Schattie, owner of Bocelli’s Italian Eatery on Haywood Street in Waynesville, will again host the awards ceremony at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13 at Bocelli’s.
The Best in Show winner will receive a free photo sitting at Brown’s studio in Maggie Valley. First and second place winners will receive gift certificates for Bocelli’s Italian Eatery in Waynesville and a large tote bag monogrammed with Sarge’s logo.
