This weekend, I ran a race. It was the Rhododendron Run, the same 10K I slogged through last year, though this time around I wasn’t nursing a breakup. So, my mind was much clearer, but the course was just as hard, with long hills baking under an angry sun. In the end, I came in 114th out of 120 runners. But it didn’t matter. It was worth it, as almost all difficult runs are. In my half-delirium during the race, I got to thinking about how lucky we are that people do what they love, even though it may be difficult or tedious or lonely at times.
I don’t have the desire to tend a beautiful garden, star in a one-woman play, master an instrument or learn to clog, but thank God people do. All my picks for this week, and for every week, are possible because of people chasing their passion. I think ...
