Stone joins Mountaineer team
Jessi Stone is the new assistant editor of The Mountaineer.
Originally from Cleveland in northeast Georgia, home of the Cabbage Patch Kids, she has spent the last year and a half in the Florida Panhandle serving as editor of a beach community newspaper.
Stone is thrilled to be back in the mountains with fresh air and friendly people. She earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Georgia State University and completed her master’s degree in new media journalism from Full Sail University in 2012.
Stone has a passion for writing and using her social media experience to inform the locals on what is happening in their community. She is an award-winning features and education reporter, but her guilty pleasure is local government reporting.
Her mother said she knew when Stone was a child that she would be a journalist because of her nosy nature and eaves-dropping abilities.
While journalism is her true calling in life, she also has a passion for reading, theater, music and singing alongside her singer/songwriter husband Matt Welborn. For those reasons, she is excited to also serve as The Guide editor at The Mountaineer.
Matt and Jessi have one child together, a 4-year-old basset hound and dachshund mix named Ginger.
"We're delighted to have Jessi on board," said Vicki Hyatt, Mountaineer editor. "We are especially excited about her skills in new and emerging media, which is the wave of the future in journalism."
Feel free to stop by the office and say hi to Jessi or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
