Stringfield swims to regional title in 500 free

HUNTERSVILLE — For the third-time in her career, Tuscola senior Katy Stringfield won the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Class 3-A West Regional championship in the 500 free and finished second in the 200 free at the Family Fitness and Aquatic Center Friday night.
A total of 11 Mountaineers (top 12 finish) qualified to advance into the state Class 3-A championships this weekend in Cary and will compete in 11 individual events and in four relays.
In the team standings, the Tuscola girls finished third behind second place Marvin Ridge and champion Charlotte Catholic, while head coach Robin Batchelor’s boys were 14th.
