Summer Speaker Series — Harnish to speak Aug. 27
Long’s Chapel Summer Speaker Series will conclude with the Rev. Dr. Jim Harnish, who will speak at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
The former senior pastor of Hyde Park United Methodist Church in Tampa, Florida, Harnish’s sermons are full of wisdom and often bring humor — perhaps from his drama background — which enables him to connect with his congregation and audiences in a most memorable way.
He has authored dozens of books, Bible studies and articles, including “A Disciple’s Path: Deepening Your Relationship with Christ and the Church,” “Strength for the Broken Places,” “Simple Rules for Money” and “You Only Have to Die: Leading Your Congregation to New Life.” He served is a contributor to both “365 Meditations for Young Adults” and “365 Meditations for Men by Men.” Long’s Chapel is using his book, “A Disciple’s Path,” for new member orientation and for the upcoming Advent series.
Harnish studied speech and drama at Asbury College and received his Masters of Divinity degree at Asbury Theological Seminary. He has received honorary doctoral degrees from Bethune-Cookman University and Asbury Theological Seminary. His passion for missions has taken him all over the world.
Harnish and his wife, Marsha, live in Tampa and have two daughters, Carrie and Deborah. In his free time, Harnish enjoys reading, walking, cheering for the Gators, relaxing by the lake and playing with grandchildren.
