Take a 'Polar Plunge' to benefit Kids in the Creek Feb. 1
Haywood Waterways will be hosting the second annual Polar Plunge Benefit for Kids in the Creek and youth education from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Lake Junaluska Assembly beach (next to the pool).
A free hot chili lunch will follow, "cook-off" style, meaning there will be competition.
“We are seeking as many valiant souls as possible to brave the frigid waters of Lake Junaluska and help raise money for our premier education event,” said Eric Romaniszyn, "one that the teachers call ‘extremely valuable for teaching about water quality’ and the students call ‘cool.’”
All ages welcome, though children need parent’s permission (parents need to have to sign a liability waiver). Shirt and shoes are mandatory, and costumes are encouraged.
“We do have data that demonstrate Kids in the Creek is a very effective tool for bringing out environmentally-responsible behaviors in the kids,” said Romaniszyn.
The cost to enter is $25 and people can register by “Joining the Team” here on Crowdrise. at www.crowdrise.com/2NDPOLARPLUNGE.
Entry will be free to those who get their family and friends as sponsors. All “plungers” will receive a free T-shirt for participating
The community can also donate at the Website without taking “the Plunge” or they may sponsor other plungers. Organizers are seeking event sponsorship. Contact the committee at 476-4667 or email@example.com for those details).
“There will be lots of door prizes and great prizes for the top fundraiser and best costume,” said Romaniszyn.
The chili lunch is free for everyone and all entrants will receive a free T-shirt to commemorate their plunge. The Lake Junaluska Assembly will have a bonfire going to help attendees warm up as well as indoor changing and eating facilities. The event will happen rain or shine.
