Talk with a Doc: “Latest Advances in Women’s Health” is May 16

David Kirk, MD and Jody Schmit, Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) of Haywood Women’s Medical Center will be presenting the Talk with a Doc dinner seminar “Latest Advances in Women’s Health” on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 6 p.m. at the Haywood Regional Medical Center Café.  Dr. Kirk and Schmit will speak while patrons enjoy a healthy meal. Topics to be covered include:  treatments for menopause, minimally invasive surgery, hysterectomy, treatments for prolapse, midwifery care, role of certified nurse midwives, who can see a nurse midwife, options for childbirth and more.

Dr. Kirk is board certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology with Haywood Women’s Medical Center. He received his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine and completed his Internship and Residency at the University of Tennessee in Memphis, TN.  He has 22 years of medical experience and specializes in all areas of obstetrics and gynecology and laparoscopic surgery. His areas of special interest are minimally invasive surgery, treatment of endometriosis, and menopausal symptoms.

Schmit is certified as a nurse-midwife by the American Midwifery Certification Board, She holds a BSN degree from the University of Minnesota, an MSN from Frontier Nursing University, and completed additional training at Watauga Medical Center and Baker Center for Primary Care.  Her areas of special interest are prenatal care, labor and delivery, and postpartum care, along with normal well-women care, such as yearly physical examinations.
