National Volunteer Week is April 6-12.  Haywood County has an amazing amount of great volunteers in the community.  Haywood Jackson Volunteer Center thanks all those who volunteers, whether if it's at church, helping with their children's team, or with the many organizations in the community.

For those who have time and wish to share their talents, the following  opportunities are available. Call 356-2833 for more information.

Taste of Chocolate — April 19

Haywood Waterways Association — Saturday, April 12 is stream clean-up at Canton Recreation Park

Mountain Mediation — Spring training will be held May 6-8

Mountain Projects —  Receptionist and volunteers for phone assurance program needed

Meals on Wheels — Drivers needed to fill routes; secretary needed for Friends

Haywood County Public Library — volunteers needed for Giving Garden and for assortment of tasks throughout the library

Circles of Hope — Mentors needed; volunteers needed to serve on committee

Habitat for Humanity — Help needed to build houses and to run the Habitat Store

HRMC Hospic — Help needed with new program, Vet to Vet

The Community Kitchen — Cooks, servers, assistance with fundraiser needed

REACH of Haywood County  — Volunteers needed for hotline and thrift store

Good Samaritan Clinic — Help needed at front desk

The Open Door — Assistance needed in the dining room/kitchen, thrift shop and food pantry

Haywood Chamber of Commerce — Help needed in office

STAR Ranch — Help care for abused horses and assist with homeless cats

Haywood Regional Medical Center Auxiliary — Help needed at front desk and to escort patients

Haywood Christian Ministry  — Volunteers needed to receive donations in 4-hour shifts

The Great Laurels of Junaluska — Assistance needed with odds and ends projects for residents

Smoky Mt. Health Care and Rehab Center — Assistance needed with activities

Big Brothers/Big Sisters — Big brothers and sisters needed for community and school programs

Friends of the Smokies — Help needed with outreach programs

Bethel Rural Community Organization — Volunteers needed for food bank pantry every second Wednesday monthly

Barium Spring — Mentors needed

Pigeon Community Development Center  — Volunteers needed for transportation and to help children with math and reading

Guardian Ad Litem — Advocates in the court system for abused or neglected children

Haywood County TDA Visitor's Center — Volunteers needed to man centers and greet people

Special Olympics — Coaches and mentors needed

Haywood Chamber of Commerce — Volunteer needed to answer phones and greet customers

Pathways Thrift Store — Volunteers and clerks needed to process items

KARE — Assistance needed for reception work in the mornings and assistance with Personal Safety Program

Health Haywood — Partners needed to keep county healthy

The Arc of Haywood County — Volunteers needed for facility maintenance and office work

Autumn Care — Sit with a friend, teach a craft to the seniors

Haywood Spay/Neuter — Volunteers needed for office work, spay/neuter on-site transport  (loading, unloading assisting clients, prepping crates), and trap-neuter-return program

American Youth Soccer Organization — Referees, line painters and concession stand workers needed

Haywood County Arts Council — Volunteers needed for Gallery 86, shifts from 10 a.m. to 1 pm. and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Sarge's Animal Rescue — Volunteers needed for transportation and office help; foster homes needed for dogs and cats

Foster Grandparents — Help a pre-school or elementary age child; stipend available for those who meet guidelines.
