Thanksgiving Day meals offered

Nov 09, 2013

The Haywood County Department of Social Services is currently accepting referrals for Thanksgiving dinners for county residents who need them, provided by the Maggie Valley Area Lodging Association (MVALA).

As in past years, the MVALA has agreed to donate dinners for families that might not otherwise have the means to provide them. The MVALA is also accepting donations from the community to provide additional meals.

“We are very happy to announce that we have over 200 dinners to give away this year to those who need them,” said Phillip White, an MVALA member.  We also welcome donations from the community to provide even more boxes this year.”

To receive a turkey dinner box, residents are asked to contact DSS and speak to a representative who is familiar with their situation (Medicaid, Food & Nutrition Services, Adult Services, etc).  The Social Services worker will then refer the client’s name to a master list depending on turkey basket availability.

The turkey dinners will be distributed beginning at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 26, at the Haywood County DSS offices at 157 Paragon Parkway in Clyde. To sign up for a turkey dinner, call your Social Services Representative at 828.452.6620. To make a donation to provide more turkey dinners, call Phillip White at 828.926.3539.
