The Arc of Haywood celebrates at annual meeting
The Arc of Haywood County held its annual meeting on Sept. 22 at First Presbyterian Church in Waynesville. The Arc of Haywood County is a nonprofit corporation whose mission is to serve individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.
Steve Brown, executive director, presented the Year-in-Review before a special awards presentation was given. The Employee of the Year Award was given to Debbie Warren, group home coordinator.
The evening ended by recognizing the recipients of mini-grants made possible by The Arc of Haywood County and United Way.
The mini-grants provide funding for special projects/programs that serve to increase learning opportunities for students with intellectual and other related developmental disabilities, and enhance education, quality of life and classroom inclusion for students.
This year, a total of $8,249 was awarded to 26 teachers, psychologists, and speech and language pathologists working in Haywood County schools.
The Arc’s annual fundraiser, Arctoberfest, was announced; it will take place Friday, Oct. 21, at Wells Event Center in Waynesville. Tickets are now available.
