The Classic Wineseller Presents Joe Cruz October 18, Fall for Jazz Series Continues October 19
Waynesville, NC - Joe Cruz (vocals, piano) performs LIVE at the Classic Wineseller on Friday, October 18 at 7pm. There is a $10 per person minimum including food, drink or retail purchases on Friday night. Reservations are recommended.
Joe Cruz grew up in a musical family in New York City, performing in church from a young age. He became a regular on the New York club scene and has opened for Average White Band, Chicago, Bonnie Raitt, and Santana. Cruz now resides in Haywood County with his wife and two daughters.
On Saturday, October 19 the Classic Wineseller’s second annual Fall for Jazz celebration features the James Hammel Trio in the second concert of the four concert series. Tickets are $39.99 per person before tax and gratuity and include a special four-course dinner prepared in the Wineseller’s kitchen. James Hammel is joined by Steve Davidowski on the piano, and James Simmons on bass. Hammel was at the top of the corporate ladder in NYC when terrorists attacked on September 11, 2001. That day was a defining moment for Hammel who decided to leave the corporate life to pursue music full-time. He has performed in The Metropolitan Room, a renowned NYC jazz and cabaret club, and The Bitter End, one of the top songwriter venues in the world. A student of the jazz guitar great, Sal Salvador, Hammel was a finalist in the Great American Song Contest and his original songs have made Billboard's Top 500.
Steve Davidowski was a founding member of the Dixie Dregs Band with Steve Morse. He toured with well-known fiddler extraordinaire, Vassar Clemmons, of "Orange Blossom Special" fame. Davidowski also toured with other well known artists, including T. Graham Brown.
James Simmons received his classical and jazz training at Arizona State University where he played as the principle bassist in the 10:00 Band. After moving to New York, he studied privately with the world-renowned soloist Gary Carr, and Frederick Zimmerman, the principal bassist with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. After owning the successful nightclub Chuy’s in Arizona, James and wife Nancy retired, but continue to write and record in their home studio and teach private lessons.
Fall for Jazz continues on October 26th with energetic and entertaining cool, bop, and post bop standards by the Wendy Jones Quartet (Steve Davidowski, piano; Zack Page, bass; Rick Dilling, drums). Closing the Fall for Jazz series on Saturday, November 2nd is Centerpiece Jazz (Joseph Hasty, guitar; Leo Johnson, lead guitar & vocals; Zack Page, bass) performing classic jazz, swing tunes, and show tunes--everything from Armstrong, Ellington and Ella to Coltrane, Miles and Monk.
