The Creative Thought Center was originally founded in November 1999 by Reverend Patricia Mackey as the Haywood County Center for the teaching of Religious Science and affiliated with Religious Science International. In 2006, after much research, discussions and consensus building the membership decided The Creative Thought Center would become completely independent from any national affiliation while maintaining the teachings of Ernest Holmes (1887-1960) as our core philosophy. Again, using consensus building, new and open-minded by-laws were adopted. The emphasis was put on Holmes’ original concept of remaining open at the top to all spiritual truths. The Creative Thought Center was “reborn” as the metaphysical heart of Haywood County.

In addition to the compilation of what Holmes believed to be the greatest truths of the ages, The Center teachings also include the wisdom of the Far East, Native American tradition, better understanding of Gnosticism, ancient and modern masters. Holmes’ understanding of the power of Unity and Wholeness is put into daily practice in this community, whose approach, while new to some, remains refreshing and non-denominational.

The spiritual leadership of The Creative Thought Center is maintained by an Ordained Minister of Science of Mind, Reverend Frank Kish as well as several Certified Practitioners. Working with a Board of Trustees consisting of 5 to 7 members, members are encouraged to take as active a role in policy, decision and activities as is comfortable for them.

While Holmes’ teachings generally govern the 11:00 a.m. Sunday Service, the 10:30 meditation is as diverse as guided meditation, Kriya yoga tradition, visual, music or seed thought meditation. Classes teaching the basics ofScience of Mind and A Course In Miracles are offered weekly, as well as, the world-wide phenomenon of The Oneness Blessing (Deeksha).

The Creative Thought Center soon celebrates 14 years as a truly diverse and spiritual welcome center.
