The few who vote have great power

The citizens of Haywood County were presented with a tremendous opportunity to better understand the positions of those seeking the county commissioner post at a forum held this week at the Historic County Courthouse.

Republican Commissioner Kevin Ensley, Democratic Commission Chairman Mark Swanger and Democratic challenger Mike Treadway directly answered probing questions posed to them by the moderator. It was refreshing to see these candidates respond toå important issues in a straight-forward manner rather than try and turn their 2 minutes into a mini-commercial that re-emphasized their campaign talking points. Their responses came off as sincere and their statements showed genuine concern about the issues facing the community.
