The Mountains are alive with lots to do
There is so much to do in these parts, it's hard to decide what to do with your free time.
Carol Singer Viau was the lifestyle editor for The Mountaineer, and retired in June 2013. During her five years at the paper, her desk covered everything from birth to death — and all community happenings in between.
Originally from Hammond, Indiana, Carol received a B.S with distinction from Indiana University in radio & television production. She had a 25-year career in advertising and marketing in Chicago and Miami, and did free-lance sailing photography for a while.
She met her husband, Paul, when they worked for rival advertising agencies in Miami, Florida. They became permanent residents of Haywood County in 2008 and reside in Waynesville. Paul writes the weekly "Did You Know" column for The Guide. Carol serves on the board of Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation.
