The Open Door offers a new service

Dec 31, 2012

The day after Christmas at The Open Door was a special time for many who depend on the ministry offering food and warmth for those down on their luck.

On Wednesday, Dec. 26, The Open Door Ministries reached a new hallmark in its service to the community by celebrating a ribbon cutting ceremony that introduced “Mr. Clean,” the new laundry ministry .

"We gathered together to reflect on the impact this will have on a number of individuals and families that do not enjoy the simple luxury of being able to wash and dry their clothes," said Perry Hines, director of The Open Door. "One of our family of friends, Johnny Rhea, will be our resident manager and use of the laundry room will be on a first come, first serve basis."

Hines extended thanks to The Houck Foundation of Sarasota, Florida, which provided a grant to cover the majority of the cost; ministry team member Rick Smith and Martin Russell and Roger Hanes, who performed a lot of the day to day construction responsibilities.

What a wonderful service to the community.  Thank you Open Door for pursuing this grant and providing a way for folks to have clean clothes.  It is hard to feel dignified when wearing dirty clothes.  Another way you are helping those less fortunate in our community.
