|Jackson Co. Justice Center|
|Jan 14, 2013|
The Western North Carolina Civil War Round Table begins the 2013 year on January 14. Dinner will be at 5:00 pm at Bogart's in Sylva followed by a social hour at 6:30 pm at the Justice Center in Sylva. At 7:00 pm Chris Behre will talk about and demonstrate from William J. Hardee's manual of arms popularly known as "Hardee's Tactics". At the request of Jefferson Davis the Secretary of War, Hardee, a Lt. Colonel in the US Army, wrote this manual in 1855. Although both Hardee and Davis would resign a commission and senator's seat, respectively, Hardee's Tactics would serve as the operational manual for both the Union and the Confederate armies. Chris will be in uniform and execute some of the close order drill movements. He will also talk about aspects of the North Carolina home front and parts of the uniform.
Chris Behre is a former reenactor with the 26th NC Infantry Regiment and has been a member of the WNCCWRT for more than 12 years serving as Treasurer for the past three. Come join us at Bogart's in Sylva at 5:00 pm for dinner with the speaker and other WNCCWRT members. A social hour at 6:30 pm at the Justice Center, Sylva, Room #20 will be followed by Chris Behre's presentation at 7:00 pm. See you there to learn what our ancestors endured in the 1860s.
