These are a few of my favorite things
It’s 8 p.m. Sunday night, and I am sitting at the Amtrak station in Charlotte waiting for my little sister to get here from Delaware.
Last time she was “home” from school we were still living in Florida. I’m so excited for her to finally see where we call home now and to finally show her around town.
When we finally get back to Haywood tonight, Christmas will be complete with my entire family near me. We will all wrap presents, listen to our favorite Christmas tunes, watch movies and cook our favorite foods.
On Christmas Eve, we will fill each other’s stockings, open one present (new pajamas), make hot cocoa and sit by the fire. After we open the rest of the gifts under the tree and make brunch on Christmas morning, we will make our way over the mountain and through the woods to Helen, Georgia to join the rest of our family for the day. These are a just a few of my favorite things for the holidays!
This week you will notice a number of “best” lists at Christmastime. These are meant to spark thoughts of your own favorite past times or to help you find new favorites for the holiday season.
The holidays are a time to squeeze in as much of those good times as we can before we start the year all over again. There’s rarely any other time of the year when we have the time to just relax with family, listen to Christmas songs, bake with mom, watch movies with dad or read books to the kiddies.
So in hopes that you have the time to do all of you favorite things, I’ve included a list of my favorite things that I want to share with you.

We had almost 50 entries of cute kids and adults pictured with Santa and followers voted for their favorites. The top 3 plus an editor’s choice award will be included in the Christmas issue. Since the next Guide comes out on New Year’s Day, the Dec. 25 Guide will contain all the New Year’s events you will need to know about in advance. If you have a New Year’s event you want to be mentioned in The Guide, please email it to me by this Friday. Happy holidays!
