WAYNESVILLE — Thomas Leon Henry, 75, of Clyde, passed away Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at the MedWest Homestead Hospice in Waynesville.
A native and lifelong resident of Waynesville, he was born Nov. 18, 1938, to the late Leon Ward Henry and Ola Roten Henry.
Mr. Henry was a graduate of Waynesville Township High School and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force as a medic. He retired from Sears after 30 years as an electronic technician. Mr. Henry was very active within the Canton First United Methodist Church, and helped to build more than 40 homes with the Haywood County Habitat for Humanity.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Shirley Young Henry of the home; daughter, Leigh Young Henry and her fiancé James A. Marsh of Clyde; and brother, Michael Ward Henry of Waynesville.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Canton First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Clay Morgan and Dustin James officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Henry’s memory to the Canton First United Methodist Church, the Haywood County Habitat for Humanity, and to the MedWest Homestead Hospice for their wonderful care during his final days.
