WAYNESVILLE — Mr. Thomas W. Gunter, 77, of Waynesville, died Nov. 22, 2012, at his home. He was born in Jackson County to the late Frank Houston Gunter and Dellie Wykle Gunter. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Cagle Gunter; an infant daughter, Kimberly Gunter; brothers, Doyle and Joe; and sisters, Ruby Conner, Lavon, and her husband, Clifford Stiles; and sister-in-law, Betty Gunter.
Mr. Gunter retired from Lea Industries and worked for a number of years in construction. He was of the Baptist faith and attended several local churches.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Whitner Gunter, of the home; daughters, Donna Gunter Fernandez and Sherri Gunter, both of Waynesville; step-daughters, Mary Payne, and her husband, Johnny, of Marshall, Wanda Bradshaw, and her husband, James, of Waynesville; brothers, Arthur Gunter, of Sylva, Frank Gunter Jr., and his wife, Shelby, of Blairsville, Georgia; sister Dessie Plott, and her husband, Fred, of Blairsville, Georgia; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Herman Conner; sister-in-law, Sandra Gunter; and several nieces and nephews.
Thomas was a good friend, loving husband, father and papaw.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, in the chapel of Garrett Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Gunter Cemetery, Jackson County. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
