Thompson, Pisgah girls qualify for 2-A state championship

RUTHERFORDTON — Riding the spectacular performance of senior Ashley Thompson, the Pisgah varsity girls golf team (229) qualified for the state championship after finishing fourth at the NCHSAA Class 1-A/2-A West Regional at Meadowbrook Golf Course.
Thompson (medalist) was crowned the regional champion after shooting a 77, which also was the lowest score in all classifications of the state regional tournaments.
Earlier in the season, Thompson tied a state record with a 66 in a conference match. In that round she shot a five-under par 29,  which broke a state record for nine holes.
The state championship tournament will be held  Monday-Tuesday (Oct. 29-30) in Pinehurst.   
For Pisgah, Elizabeth Belham shot a 102, Haley Penland finished with a 120, Ashley Holland carded a 121 and Tessie ...
