Time is running out to enter Sarge's Pet Photo Contest

Time is running out for entries to be submitted for Sarge’s Pet Photo Contest.  The deadline is Friday, Feb. 28.  Photos, entry forms and a $10 registration fee may be mailed to Sarge’s at P.O. Box 854, Waynesville, NC 28786, or brought to the Adoption Center Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For directions, call 246-9050.

Categories for this year’s judging are Best in Show, Dog, Cat, Puppy, Kitten, Photographers under the age of 12, Sarge Rescue, Other Pet (animal other than a dog or cat), and Super Shooters (people who have previously won first place).

Entry forms are available on Sarge’s website (sargeandfriends.org) and at the following locations:  The Dog House, 304 N. Haywood St., Waynesville; Mountain Dreams Reality, 3457 Soco Road, Maggie Valley; Smoky Mountain Dog Bakery, 102 N. Main St.,Waynesville; and Sarge’s Adoption Center at 256 Industrial Park Drive. They can also be found at Country Lane Animal Hospital, Canton Animal Hospital, Balsam Animal Hospital, Maple Tree Animal Hospital, Junaluska Animal Hospital and The Animal Hospital of Waynesville .

Photos must be the original work of an amateur photographer. Size should range from 4x6 to 8x10 inches.  Do not frame or mat the photos. More than one photo can be submitted but a completed entry form and $10 fee must accompany each photo.

Electronic submissions or electronically altered photos will not be accepted. Photos cannot be returned.

Beth Brown of Beth Brown Photography will be joining Ellen Schattie to judge the entries.

"When judging the photos for Sarge’s Pet Photo Contest, we look for how creative the photographer was in capturing the unique and often fun or crazy qualities of the pet," said Brown. "We also look for originality in composition of the image and quality in the final print."

Bocelli’s Italian Eatery on Haywood Street in Waynesville will host the awards ceremony Saturday, March 15. The Best in Show winner will receive a free photo sitting at Brown’s studio in Maggie Valley.  First and second place winners will receive gift certificates for Bocelli’s Italian Eatery.  First place winners will also be given prizes donated by local businesses in specially hand-crafted tote bags.
