WAYNESVILLE — Tony Hooper Rich, 56, of Waynesville, passed away Friday Dec. 20, 2013 at his residence after a 25-year battle with cancer.
A native and lifelong resident of Waynesville, born Feb. 24, 1957, he was the son of the late Ruben Franklin Rich and Elizabeth Ann Rich Clark and her husband Yoder, of Clyde.
Mr. Rich worked for 23 years at Dayco, then later became a self-employed farmer and caretaker. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesville. His number one interest was telling people about God. Next, he loved his family, hunting, fishing, trapping, digging ginseng and ramps, camping, and gardening. He was an avid outdoorsman.
Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Billie Turner Rich, of the home; sons, Sidney David Rich, of Maggie Valley, and Christopher Thomas Rich and his wife, Tiffany, of Waynesville; daughters, Michelle Janeen Rich, of Waynesville, and Ruth Ann Rich, of the home; brother, Steve Rich and his wife, Linda, of Maggie Valley; sisters, Phyllis Rogers and her husband, Teddy, of Waynesville, and Patsy Browning and her husband, Roger, of Lake Junaluska; step-son, David Acosta; grandchildren, Averrie Gast, Kyla Rich, Lillie Rich, Eli Rich, Dillion Rich, Kyleigh Acosta and Emma Acosta; and several nieces and nephews including his special nephew, Joey Rich.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m, Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at the Maggie Valley First Baptist Church with Pastor Ricky Mason officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior.
His cremated remains will be spread by his family at his favorite mountain spots.
