Town's fire department, employees collect for charity
Town of Waynesville employees held a “Firemen’s Boot Drive” in the parking lots at Ingles on Barber Boulevard and Wal Mart in Waynesville on Friday, Dec. 6, collecting food and money to help replenish the food pantry at Haywood Christian Ministry. This event was organized and led by Fire Chief Joey Webb and firemen of the Waynesville Fire Department.
A total of $2,688 was collected, along with one truck load of food items. Fire Chief Joey Webb and Town Manager Marcy Onieal presented the money and food items to Haywood Christian Ministry Director Lisa James. The Town of Waynesville is grateful to Ingles and Walmart for allowing the use of their parking lots for this event and thanks town employees, volunteers and the community for taking part and volunteering time to collect the food and money.
Another event was held by town employees to collect food for Haywood Christian Ministry at the annual luncheon Friday, Dec. 13. Enough food items were collected to fill one additional truck. Finance Department employees Lisa Elliott and Hollie Chase also led a coat drive, collecting approximately 70 coats for distribution to children in the Haywood County School System. Tom Wilson with American Cleaners in Canton donated free cleaning services for up to twenty coats, if needed. Town employees encourage the public to donate to their favorite charity this Holiday Season.
