Train to become a better rural leader

Dec 03, 2013

The Rural Center has opened the application process for the 2014 Rural Economic Development Institute, the center’s signature program for rural leaders.

More than 900 people, including local government officials, nonprofit leaders, business owners and clergy members have participated in the program since 1989. Through an intensive training regimen, REDI addresses leadership in two ways: it provides participants with techniques designed to enhance their skills as community leaders, and enhances their knowledge of economic and community development strategies.

REDI will take place April 23-25May 14-16 and June 11-13 at the Rural Center in Raleigh. Between classes, REDI class members complete homework assignments and are given the opportunity to put their skills into action in their home communities. Participants are selected through a highly competitive process. Tuition is $595, and limited scholarships are available. Applications are due Feb. 14, 2014.
