Tuscola continues early season success

Womack wins Saunook’s 138-pound title, THS beats Swain

CHEROKEE — The Tuscola varsity wrestling team had another impressive performance at the Cherokee High’s Osley B. Saunook 11-team Tournament on Saturday.
A total of seven Mountaineers finished in the top four spots in their respective weight classification, including one champion, Ben Womack, at 138 pounds.
Tourney runner-ups were Skylar Morrissey (195), who had been out since the beginning of the season with an injury, Clay Wightman (182) and Houston Dickens (145), while Jeremiah Royer (152) and Justin Hogan (170) won the consolation championships (third place) and Jackson Neal (160) seized fourth place.
Earlier in the week,Tuscola traveled to Swain County and beat the Maroon Devils, 39-27.
James Gibson (106) and Womack (138) both won by forfeit, while Daniel Messer (126), Royer (152), Neal (160), Hogan (170) and Wightman (182) all scored points for the Mountaineers with a pin.
