Would you like to learn more about Purchase Knob, a research station of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park? Tuscola Garden Club’s October program will feature Pat Maier with the National Park Service, who will share a presentation entitled “Purchase Knob - Past, Present and Future”. The meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 18th at the Bethea Welcome Center at Lake Junaluska. Visitors are welcome.
Purchase Knob, a 535-acre site, privately owned by Kathryn McNeil and Voit Gilmore since 1964, was donated to the GSMNP in 2000. The park has developed the site as a scientific research learning center, which includes administrative offices and laboratory space, along with classrooms and housing for visiting scientists.
We will hear about the important scientific studies that have been done, and work that is ongoing, as well as plans for future projects at Purchase Knob to help keep the environs of the park and the Appalachian mountains healthy and beautiful.
